Risperdal is approved by the FDA

It is a neuroleptic (antipsychotic drug). The active component selectively blocks D2-dopaminergic, 5-HT2-serotonergic receptors in the central nervous system, as well as alpha-1-adrenergic, to a lesser extent — alpha-2-adrenergic, H1-histamine receptors. Eliminates automatism, hallucinations, delusions, reduces aggressiveness, fear.

It is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, psychotic states with pronounced productive (hostility, delusions, hallucinations, thinking disorders and suspicion) or negative (poor speech, social and mental detachment, blunted affect) symptoms. The drug is also used to reduce the symptoms of affective disorders such as guilt, depression, and anxiety in patients suffering from schizophrenia. The drug is intended to reduce the likelihood of developing an exacerbation of schizophrenia, in the chronic course of the disease.
